A handwritten card from “a man who is sorry” has been left in St Stephen’s underpass where a homeless man was found dead earlier this month.
Sergiusz Meges, known locally as Sergio, died in the subway on the morning of Wednesday, June 10.
Floral tributes have been placed for the 29-year-old, who had previous addresses in both Norwich and Thetford.
Now, a card has been added to the tributes, apologising for not helping him.
It says: “I’m sorry I didn’t help you more.
“I’m sorry people only cared after you died.
“I’m sorry I didn’t know your name.
“I’m sorry I ignored you.
“I’m sorry we’ll never change. May you find the peace in death you couldn’t find in life.”
The card is signed from “a man who is sorry”.
Mr Meges’ death was initially treated as unexplained, until forensic enquiries revealed fatal injuries which officers did not notice at first, including cuts to his spleen causing internal bleeding.
The investigation into his death continues.
