The alarm was raised after the object was discovered near Hunstanton cliffs at low tide yesterday evening.

Coastguards sealed off the scene as an RAF bomb disposal team rushed to the resort.

They destroyed what is believed to have been a phosphorus munition, dating back to the Second World War, in a controlled explosion.

The beach was declared safe just after 9pm.
