Hundreds of people made the most of the sunny weather and spent the warm afternoon at the Memorial Playing Field where a number of activities took place for the seventh annual games event.

Youngsters gave archery a shot, hurled plastic javelins in the air and some even prepared for the upcoming World Cup with a friendly football match.

This year's family-focussed sports event also included golf, hosted by the nearby Ryston Park Golf Club.

Seven-year-old Tobias Williams-Ward, from Downham Market, tried his hand at golf but it wasn't quite his cup of tee.

Mum Lisa Williams-Ward explained: 'It's his first time.' Asked what drew her and her family to the games, she said: 'Just for a fun family day out, it is our first time here. 'I have always heard about it and it has been a lovely day.'

A score of fitness enthusiasts took part in the outdoor jazzercise class while youngsters battled it out at the nerf gun wars hosted by the Army Cadets.

In a tense penalty shoot-out, seven-year-old Jago Morgan defeated the goalkeeper and got several goals in the net.

Mum Laura Morgan said the games is a good day out for the family, adding: 'It is just on our doorstep and it is a nice day.'

For those who wanted to take it a little easy, a walking football match was organised by Matthew Green of King's Lynn Community Football.

Organiser Frances Rayner said the event had something for everybody and catered for all ages and ability.

'We are all about health, sport and wellbeing,' she added. 'If anyone can take anything away from today it's to have a go at something.'

For the first time in its history, the event will be donating funds towards its chosen charity, with this year's funds going to the West Norfolk Deaf Association.

'They are quite a small charity and we wanted to choose something local,' Ms Rayner added. 'We are hoping to carry on raising money for charity.
