Organisers of a discount shopping voucher scheme in four Norfolk market towns to boost shops and traders say hundreds of people have already taken advantage of offers from businesses in Diss, Wymondham, Harleston and Loddon.

At the end of last month South Norfolk Council teamed up with nearly 100 retailers to launch Star Savings vouchers.

The vouchers can be downloaded from the council's website and redeemed in participating shops and businesses in the four towns.

The council says 'hundreds' of residents and visitors to the towns have taken advantage of the money saving vouchers.

Urging more people to sign up Martin Wilby, deputy leader of South Norfolk Council, said: 'I'm using the Star Savings vouchers when I go shopping. This is a very important time of year for businesses and the council is working with the local teams in our market towns to encourage as many people as possible to discover... how much our local retailers have to offer.'

The Star Savings voucher scheme also has an accumulator card that can either be downloaded from the council website or collected from one of the shops taking part.

People then use the card to collect a stamp from any eight of the businesses taking part for a chance to win a night away, with dinner, bed and breakfast for two, at the Barnham Broom hotel in January.

In another drive to boost shopping numbers the council is offering free parking in Diss, Loddon and Wymondham on Saturday.
