Horsford slimmers are helping their wider community by donating their 500 prize money for weight loss to a residential home in the area.

Grenville Court, in Horsford, who specialise in dementia care, thanked the Slimming World group for the money which they will be using for community projects and to increase interaction with those living in the home.

Jane Withey, slimming group consultant, from Little Plumstead, said she asked her members where they would like their money to go to and the Grenville Court decision was 'unanimous'.

The money will mainly be used to create a caf area in a room which backs onto the garden.

Ruth Stannard, manager of the home, said she hoped the area would be like a bistro, and essentially an area residents in the home can go with their families.

She said: 'We will use the generous donation to create an area which feels like those in Grenville Court have gone out for the day.

'Those with dementia are still able to have meaningful lives and I think we can bring that alive again.'

The slimming group the prize for the best weight loss over a 12 week period from February 2012 to May 2012.

Mrs Withey, who has been running the Horsford group for more than two years, said 'I think it's great what Ruth has been doing, bringing the community in.'

The Slimming World Group meet on Tueday evenings in The Church Room, Holt Road, Horsford, for two sessions at 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
