A couple from Sheringham who lost treasured snaps of their 'holiday of a lifetime' had them returned six years later after they were posted to Facebook group Secret Norwich.

Calum Corby, a freelance photographer, found photos from the trip dated 2012 on a disc lodged inside a DVD collection he'd bought secondhand.

He put the CD into his computer to see what was on it and found the pair's holiday album from their trip to New Zealand.

'When I saw these wonderful photographs, I could only feel a sense of dread that someone had lost such precious memories,' he said.

The 26-year-old then uploaded two shots of the couple dining al fresco during a stopover in Singapore, hoping that someone on the page would know who they were.

Peter Farley, 74, is a retired headteacher and policeman, now a Sheringham town councillor, and was contacted by friends who recognised him and wife Margaret from the snaps posted to the group.

Mr Farley confirmed that he had received the CD by post on Monday and had been through the extensive photo album from six years earlier.

'I enjoy taking photos, especially of flowers, but landscapes too,' he said, and 'was in heaven' when visiting the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

'We flew out to New Zealand for a five-week holiday, spending time on North and South Island. We also visited Christchurch a year after the earthquake, where I took photos of the seemingly intact but condemned houses.'

Responding to the post two days later he commented: 'Special thanks to Calum for all his efforts. The photos were taken on our holiday of a lifetime to New Zealand.'

People on social media were quick to praise the 'excellent use of technology', lauding the 'good side of Facebook' and expressing surprise at the speed of the turnaround.

Mr Corby said: 'I'm as surprised as anyone that the response was so fast and I'm fairly certain they'd figured out who was in the photos within an hour of me posting.

'I'm just happy they'll get their precious memories back, especially considering the beautiful photographs I found on there.'
