Pupils at Hockering CE Primary Academy, near Dereham, held the event as part of their learning about World War Two, on Friday, May 25.

They ate delicious wartime foods such as spam sandwiches and rhubarb snow.

They also took the time to play some 1940s playground games like skipping, four square and hopscotch. The children also played authentic music from the era to help them get into the spirit of the blitz.

Executive headteacher, Rebecca Newman said the children had thoroughly enjoyed their street party.

She said: “These sorts of events are a brilliant way for the children to really feel what it might have been like to live back then. Their costumes were fantastic and they showed their willingness to try some slightly unusual foods. Even the sardine sandwiches went down well.”
