A Hethersett based group, which empowers young people to make important life changes through daily text messaging, is raising money to become a charity.

The Respect Yourself Group will be holding an Easter Fair in Hethersett Village Hall from 10.30am to 2.30pm on April 7.

The group sends out daily 'SMS Winks' on issues as diverse as bullying, sex, finance, health and the law, aimed at providing young people with information that allows them to make more informed life choices.

Respect Yourself offers the service to youngsters aged between 13 and 25 and is a non-profit organisation that needs to raise 5,000 to enable it to gain charity status.

'We want to make a real impact in the community and can do this by helping to shape young people's decisions. Our key aim is to ensure that young people can fulfil their potential as individuals,' said founder Claire Burke who lives in Grasmere, Hethersett.

Over 200 youngsters are already using the service.

Respect Yourself has its own web site at www.respectyourself.org.uk where a whole host of archived messages can be accessed.

The site points out that 5 will pay for three young people to receive texts for a month and 20 will pay for one young person to receive a year's worth of daily messages.
