Children from Hethersett Schools have been experiencing what it's like to be a paralympic athlete.

Youngsters from Woodside Infant and Nursery School's Year Two and Hethersett Junior School's Year Three spent the day learning about sports for the disabled and took part in paralympic sports such as Goal Ball and Boccia.

John Osborne, Development Manager for the Norwich School Sports Partnership, spoke to pupils about the paralympics and the sports involved which also included zone hockey and showing them the size of the football used for wheelchair soccer.

The event was supported by Active Norfolk who brought along their official mascot Olly the Elephant.

The children also spent time in classroom groups learning about the ethos behind the Olympic and Paralympic Games. After a morning session at Hethersett the group moved onto Cringleford School in the afternoon.

The day was filmed for a special DVD being produced on local school's participation in Olympic Styled events. 'Hethersett Clusters 2012 Olympic Journey' is likely to be completed within the next week or so. The film will include wheelchair basketball sessions in Hethersett, the Hethersett pledge to fitness event, the celebration of countries event in Mulbarton, the paralympic games event in Hethersett and Cringleford, Olympic themed poetry, the making of a special Olympic torch made to the design of pupils from Hethersett High School and a visit by youngsters from Mulbarton Infants School to the London 2012 Olympic Site.
