Armed police raided a number of Wisbech homes today as part of an on-going war against illegal trafficking in heroin.

Up to 20 officers left in convoy from the town's police station at about 8.45am before launching the first two raids of the day on houses in Wilberforce Road and Prince Street.

At Wilberforce Road the police team seized a substance - believed to be heroin, on top of a wardrobe.

In nearby Prince Street officers arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply after they discovered what they believed to be heroin in the house.

The man was taken to Wisbech police station for questioning and remains in custody.
