The traditional smell of herring cooked in rolled oats and beef dripping will waft across the beach of Hemsby on Sunday, August 27.

The fish are being cooked over barbecues in the open air at Hemsby Lifeboat Station's annual Longshore Herring Festival

Fine weather is predicted for the day – allowing the life-saving team to don aprons and cook up the fundraising treat to tempt local residents, holidaymakers and day trippers to these freshly cooked treats, and it promises to be a fun day for the whole family.

The festival includes displays from East Anglian Working Newfoundland Dogs, an auction, tombolas, music, model boats and trucks, refreshments, cake stalls and a bar for all to enjoy.

The festival is a major fundraiser, but a celebration of Great Yarmouth's fishing traditions and heritage.
