A Heroes and Villains carnival parade, with floats, dancers and walkers, was cheered all the way from the parish burial ground to the playing field in Hemsby near Great Yarmouth.
Carnival chairman Colin Robinson declared the event a success despite recent weather which had left the playing field waterlogged and out of bounds.
'Everything had to go on the car park which is quite small so some vintage cars and motorbikes that were coming had to pull out,' he said.
The parade, beginning at 1pm today, included revellers dressed up as 'hero' police officers and villainous prisoners.
The 10 entries included an American police car park and an old-style British Panda car; two floats were advertising the village's planned Halloween event.
East Norfolk Militia, a colourful local re-enactment group, provided some historical drama.
Spectators lined the route in increasing numbers as the procession approached the playing field.
The carnival was the highlight of a weekend-long Hemsby festival which included a number of daytime and evening musical events.
