An investigation into a crash which saw a police van hit a missing woman has found the driver of the van did not have enough time or distance to react and avoid a collision.
An inquest is ongoing into the death of Helen Loveday, 52, who was hit by a police van in Wymondham Road in Hethel at around 10.20pm on July 27 last year.
She was airlifted to hospital but died at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge two days later.
PC Forbes Scott, a forensic collision investigator for Norfolk Constabulary who compiled the collision report into the incident, told the inquest the 'most likely explanation' for the police van striking Ms Loveday was 'that in her depressed and intoxicated state she took the decision to walk out in front of the vehicle'.
He also found through his investigation that for the driver of the van there had been 'insufficient time and distance in which to react and avoid a collision'.
The inquest, listed for five days, continues.
