Researchers in Norwich are inviting members of the public, health professionals, carers and anyone who would like to know more about dementia to a free event on Thursday, June 21.

From 2.30 to 5pm, the meeting will involve talks from scientists at the forefront of research into the condition.

The Alzheimer's Research UK public event is organised by members of the University of East Anglia (UEA) Dementia Research Collaborative, a community of dementia researchers and scientists from across the region.

Speakers on the day include Professor Matthew Lambon Ralph who will talk about his research into communication and language changes in dementia, and Professor Anne Marie Minihane who will share insights from her research into the role of nutrition in brain health.

There will be a chance for discussion at the end with the opportunity for guests to put their questions to the experts to find out about the aspects that matter to them.

Professor Michael Hornberger from the Norwich Medical School, UEA, said: 'We are delighted to be hosting this event, which creates a forum for the general public, people with dementia and their carers, to exchange their experiences and knowledge with leading researchers and clinicians.

'If you want to find out more about dementia and the groundbreaking research aiming to improve the lives of people affected by the condition, then please join us at UEA for an afternoon of talks and the chance to put your questions to the experts.'

Dr Katy Stubbs from Alzheimer's Research UK will be speaking at the meeting. She said: 'I hope that people come along to hear about the huge strides dementia scientists are making here in East Anglia. We are desperate to put an end to this devastating condition and we are passionate about sharing our knowledge about causes, risk factors and new treatments. Please come along and put your questions forward and find out how you can get involved in dementia research studies.'

The free event will be at the Julian Study Centre (ground floor, lecture theatre), UEA.

Parking is free – attendees can get their car park ticket validated at the registration desk.

And refreshments will be provided.
