An executive director at the region's ambulance trust has announced his retirement.

Sandy Brown, director of nursing and clinical quality, announced his retirement to staff and volunteers after nearly 30 years in the NHS.

He has been on the East of England Ambulance Trust (EEAST) board of directors for three years.

Mr Brown said: 'I am immensely proud of my service; I have had a great career and my passion has always been about patients and developing staff. I would like to thank everyone, and wish EEAST every success.'

Last month, EEAST medical director Mark Patten announced his resignation, after giving the organisation his formal notice in November.

The trust has seen its busiest ever days over recent months, and has come under criticism from MPs for delays.

On Tuesday MPs demanded 'a lot more needs to be done' to ensure the crisis is never repeated.
