People in north Norfolk will soon have to travel to Norwich to have their pacemakers checked because Cromer Hospital is planning to suspend its pacemaker clinics.

A Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals spokesman apologised for the temporary suspension, to take effect from September 17, which is being done in an effort to reduce patient waiting times.

The spokesman said: 'We are currently working very hard to reduce waiting times for patients under the electrophysiology service. One way to do that is by temporarily running all our pacemaker clinics at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Unfortunately, this will mean that some patients will have to travel further for their pacemaker checks.

'We aim to reinstate the service at Cromer as soon as possible, and we are actively recruiting extra staff to further develop this vital service for our patients.'
