It is a service that drove the equivalent of 240 times around the world last year.

And next week the region's ambulance service will be shining a light on its non-emergency transport service.

Staff and volunteers from the Patient Transport Service (PTS) will be taking over the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust's (EEAST) social media from September 4 - 10.

The trust will be sharing stories and videos during the PTS takeover about the work of the service, which carried out more than 530,000 patient journeys in 2016/17 and drove more than six million miles. The service transports eligible patients to and from routine medical appointments in Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, South Essex, North Essex, West Essex and Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

The service will be using #PTStakeover on Twitter at @EastEnglandAmb, and users of Facebook and YouTube will also be able to follow the takeover week.
