The county council has taken the decision to source new accommodation for residents of a care home that has received an “adverse inspection”.

Alexandra House Nursing and Residential Care Home in Euston Road was inspected by the CQC between July 16 and 18.

A decision was subsequently made to close the home and Norfolk County Council has said they are working with individuals to ensure their requirements for new accommodation are being met.

He said: “Following an adverse inspection by the Quality Care Commission (CQC), Norfolk County Council took the necessary decision to work with families and individuals to find alternative accommodation and support.

“Officers from the council, Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and other health agencies worked closely with people to ensure their individual choices were respected and that their new accommodation and support is safe, well led and provides a positive environment.”

A spokesperson for the CQC said the home had been closed after a recent inspection raised “serious concerns”

He said: “Inspectors found a number of serious concerns and, as a result, took action to protect the welfare and safety of those using the service.

“We have liaised closely with the CCG and Norfolk County Council which, following our inspection, decided to find other alternative care for people using the care home.

“We continue to work closely with both Norfolk County Council and the CCG with regard to the home. All CQC’s action is open to appeal.”

The last time the CQC provided a report on the care home, following an inspection in September 2016, it was given an overall rating of Good.

Janice Bean, whose 86-year-old aunt Pauline was moved from the home yesterday, said the home had provided her with “wonderful care”.

She said: “Alexandra House was a wonderful home for my Aunt for 6 years and would like to thank the owners and staff for the loving care and attention they gave to Pauline.”

But others described the home as “disgusting” on social media.
