The under-performing East of England Ambulance Service has ditched its plans to reapply for foundation trust status, it was announced today.
The NHS trust's first bid for the status was rejected by Monitor last year because the service was not hitting its response targets.
At a board meeting today, chairman Geoff Harris said the ambulance trust would not be reapplying until sustainable improvements have been made to the service patients receive.
He said: 'I am focussed on patients and improving our service to them. Transforming our services and becoming a high performing organisation will take time, but it is the most important challenge to address.'
The trust will continue to recruit foundation trust members and involve them in the ambulance service and how it is developing.
