Prince Harry has joined a wounded Norfolk soldier and an ex-army man from the county to take part in the first five days of a trek to the North Pole.

The 26-year-old royal is part of a charity trek across the ice caps to raise money for the Walking With The Wounded charity which wants to raise £2 million.

Swanton Morley-based Light Dragoon Captain Guy Disney, 28, who lost the lower part of his right leg in Afghanistan, is one of two amputees aiming to make the record-breaking journey to the North Pole while Ed Parker, who runs a wine business in Melton Constable, is one of the trek’s founders.

Harry met up with the team in in Norway, which is considered the best place to train for treks to the magnetic North.

The prince - who yesterday took the plunge in sub zero water - said: “I’m just here to give them as much support as possible.”

Moments before entering the water, the royal led Mr Parker, to the edge and pushed him in.

Asked what it was like in the minus 1C salt water, the royal said it was a

“silly question”, then joked it was “warm”.

When he first took the plunge, Prince Harry said: “It went up my nose.”

Harry looked relaxed when he smiled and joked around as he wallowed in the icy

water.Cpt Disney added: “The whole thing about this is that we are all walking and working together. This is a lot greater than any one of us.”
