A Norfolk town is set to receive about 38,000 from a developer for recreation facilities and the council is asking residents what they want it spent on.

Redenhall with Harleston Town Council will be allocated the Section 106 money from Persimmon Homes after plans to build about 120 homes on a site off Mendham Lane were approved.

Two options under consideration so far for Harleston's recreation ground are a skate/BMX park or a multi-use games area for, for example, five-a-side football and/or basketball, but the council is open to other suggestions.

Town clerk Margot Harbour said: 'We want to deliver what the community wants us to deliver, so we've organised this consultation to find out what people most want. However, one of the conditions of us having the money is that it must be spent on older children and adults for recreational purposes.

'And, although a swimming pool will probably be at the top of many people's wishlist, the amount we have to spend wouldn't come close to covering that expense.'

She said that some pupils at Archbishop Sancroft High School had said they would like a skatepark, which would cost more than the 38,000 but they would be willing to work with the council to raise the additional money required.

Alternatively, the money could pay for a basic multi-use games area (MUGA).

The consultation, which will continue until January 25, 2013, asks people to state a preference and provides space to suggest other facilities, and asks: 'What recreational facility do you think would help reduce anti-social behaviour in the area?' and 'What recreational facility do you think would have the most positive impact on older children/teenagers within Harleston?'
