Council officers will have to re-think plans to repair a damaged ramp to Happisburgh beach, after the bottom half of it was washed away by a very high tide.

North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) recut the ramp on Friday but 48 hours later it was left in a mess.

A spokesman for Happisburgh Coast Watch said: 'Please take care if you are trying to access the beach from here.'

Access to the beach from the ramp, which has provided pedestrian access to the public for several years, was put in doubt after it was damaged in recent winter storms and cordoned off.

NNDC hoped the repair work would allow Christmas and New Year walkers to get to the beach via the ramp as per normal.

Resident Stephen Burke said: 'Sadly, the very high tide on Sunday morning, December 17, washed away the foot of the ramp. We need a re-think.'
