A hardy band of charity runners took to the lanes of north Norfolk after the Norwich half marathon was called off because of the snow and ice.

They were geared up for the official event during a month of raising funds, and growing moustaches, to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.

Fifteen men and women were due to take part, but when the race was called off due to the weather, about half of them decided on a DIY 13-miler around the North Walsham and Stalham area despite the cold weather.

Organiser Christopher Wall from Spa Common near North Walsham said: 'When the race was called off, we phoned around and decided to do a run anyway because of the monies pledged.'

On Friday night a moustache-themed fun night at Buddies bar in Cromer saw people turning up with fancy dress to match their facial hair grown during the nationwide Movember initiative – resulting in a gathering of French people, Turkish street sellers, and rap singer Snoop Dogg.

Mr Wall, 22, who is an RNLI beach lifeguard supervisor in the summer, said their money-raising efforts during the month should top 3,000, achieving their target of beating last year's figure of 1,000.
