A teenager will be leading a pack of walkers this weekend in a bid to raise funds for a poverty-stricken area of India.

Amelia Doran, 13, a boarder at Gresham's Prep School in Holt, will be walking 10 miles from Holkham beach to Blakeney on Sunday in one day with prep school pupils and teachers. The group will set off at 10.30am.

It is to raise money for the Social Education and Development Society (SEDS) - an NGO which helps people in the drought-prone area of Anantapur District in Andhra Pradesh.

The area is a three hour bus ride from Bangalore, where Amelia lives with her parents out of school term time.

She first came into contact with the charity while she was at Stonehill International School, Bangalore, in 2011, and the school put on a fete for the organisation.

Amelia, who was born at the James Paget University Hospital, said: 'We had a three day trip to Andhra Pradesh. It scared me because people's lives in the area were so different and they needed so much help.

'It is a very poor area and the climate is really hot so there are a lot of mudhills with not much growing on them.'

SEDS was set up in 1980 by Rajen Joshua and Manil Jayasena as a grassroots development NGO.

Initially it focussed on community development and delivering non-formal education.

It gave out loans to skilled groups of people including cobblers, basket and blanket weavers.

Since then it has concentrated on empowering communities by teaching craft skills to women, educating young people and improving the natural environment as well as agricultural growth through nurseries.

Amelia will walk with about 27 other people, including fellow students aged eight-13.

The walk has been organised by Gresham's Prep School PSHE teacher Kim Quick.

Amelia said: 'I'm trying my hardest to raise money. I would like to continue travelling and helping people.'

She said she 'loved' the north Norfolk coast area and was excited about walk.

Amelia, whose father works for Shell, lived in Barnby near Beccles until she was three-years-old. She started at Gresham's Prep School in 2012.
