SHAUN LOWTHORPE
Labour remained in top spot in Norwich in a tight contest which saw a single vote thwart the Greens from overtaking the Lib Dems as the second largest party.
It was the race for second place which was the real contest of the night and the result was finally decided by the slenderest of margins in Thorpe Hamlet.
The result means that Labour now holds 15 seats, the Lib Dems 11, the Greens 10 and the Tories 3.
And while that means Labour is likely to continue as a “minority administration”, the Lib Dems have slipped from the party of power to a desperate fight to remain the largest opposition group ahead of the Greens in the space of two years.
