Crews were called to PJ’s Take Away in Northgate Street just before 6.45pm.

A fire service spokesman said: “Crews were called to a fire at 6.44pm in Northgate Street, Great Yarmouth.”

Great Yarmouth station commander Martin Harris said two fire engines were called to the scene, with four firefighters going in to tackle the blaze initially.

He said the fire was caused by ‘super-heated oil’, and started in a frying unit.

He said: “It is a small localised fire in the chip range - it is in the machine itself.

“It was heavily smoke logged and we used dry powder to extinguish the fire.”

No one was injured and neighbouring premises were evacuated.

Norfolk Police officers were also on the scene and closed the road while the crews dealt with the fire.
