A vacant BHS store has been sold to a unknown buyer.

The former Great Yarmouth BHS store was sold prior to an auction held in London today.

The Regent Road store has been empty since the department store chain went into administration last year.

It is not yet known who has bought the site or how much it sold for, but the sign showing the building was up for auction has already been taken down.

The prominent building was to be auctioned by Allsop LLP Commercial with a guide price of up to £700,000.

The auction documents say the vacant Yarmouth property may be suitable for subdivision, conversion and complete re-development, subject to the necessary consents by the borough council.

Council leader Graham Plant said they were making enquiries about who has purchased the site.

The documents added: 'This substantial property is arranged on ground and three upper floors to provide a large ground floor shop with its main frontage to Regent Road and a secondary entrance from Deneside.'

The guide price was between £500,000 and £700,000 and the site comprises a total of 2,957.85 sq m (31,837 sq ft).

It occupies a prominent corner position opposite the Market Gates Shopping Centre and near the bus station.
