A German air raid that killed 26 female soldiers in Great Yarmouth is to be remembered in a last ever memorial service of its kind.
On Friday, May 11 five former members of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), who are all in their 90s, are due to gather at the town’s seafront Burlington Palm Hotel at 11am.
The event will remember the 26 ATS woman killed on May 11 1943 when the hostel they were in was hit by a bomb from a Focke Wulf 109.
The youngster victim was local woman Lillian Grimmer, 19 and from Cobholm.
The site is now occupied by the swimming pool of the Burlington Palm Hotel.
In 1994 a memorial plaque recording the tragedy and listing the names of those who lost their lives was unveiled at the hotel by Lady Soames, youngest daughter of Winston Churchill.
It is the last memorial event as it is the 75 anniversary of the bombing and due to the ages of former ATS members.
