A sponsored walk with a gourmet picnic lunch is being staged in north Suffolk later this month to raise money for research into cancer.

The event is being hosted by Charlotte and Mick Binder, who run a farm which raises free range Bronze turkeys and follows a similar walk in the Holt area last summer, organised by her sister Jackie Parsons to raise money for charity in memory of their father Evan Adams who died of cancer.

Jackie's company – Hedonistic Hiking – offers gourmet walking holidays in Italy and she and her husband (also Mick) will be bringing their creative catering talents back to the UK for the event near Halesworth on July 30 with walkers being offered a picnic of the best of local seasonal Suffolk produce and drink after the seven-mile stroll.

Charlotte is hoping to attract 80-100 people to the walk with walkers setting off from their home at Rumburgh Farm, Rumburgh, near Halesworth from 10am in groups of about 15 with a guide.

Charlotte said: 'The walk will be through rural Suffolk countryside, mainly over footpaths with a little part of it on quiet lanes, and taking in two churches – Rumburgh and Spexhall - on the way.

'There will be light refreshments at the churches and people on hand to answer any questions about them.

'It is a lovely area to walk in because it is fairly flat, the walking is relatively easy and there are great views across the countryside.

'We anticipate the walk will take about three hours and then it is back to our farm for a lunch which Jackie and Mick will prepare.

'The walk will showcase the local countryside, what we do at Rumburgh Farm, and also help promote local produce.'

The walk costs 20 per person, of which 4 covers the lunch with the rest of the money going to Cancer Research UK. Under-18s are free but will be encouraged to donate through sponsorship if they wish.

'We chose Cancer Research UK because it is a charity that is close to our hearts and to those of many other people,' she added.

As well as raising free-range turkeys at Rumburgh Farm, Charlotte and Mick also have two self-catering holiday cottages overlooking a picturesque lake, with each able to sleep up to four people. Their children Sophie, 21, and William, 11 will also be joining in the walk.
