A student from Gorleston has received a top award at an annual student prize giving event held by Easton and Otley College.

The occasion, held at the Norfolk campus, celebrated the efforts of top performing students.

It saw Mary Croft, 18, receive the sports award for best sports performance. She studied on a level three football academy course.

Her tutor, Hayley Colison, said: 'Mary is a phenomenal athlete. Her commitment to football training and strength and conditioning has been second to none.

'Mary captained the under 19 football team and led by example. She also received the highest possible grade that you can receive on her (BTEC) course. She is an outstanding individual, an inspiration to others and we know she will excel in whatever career path she chooses to take.'

Mary, who once had a trial for the England colleges football team, said: 'It's a privilege. I didn't expect it.'
