Peter Clarke, 34, and Lucy Clarke, 32, shared their wedding day with the Royal couple at midday on Saturday.

Mr Clarke said he had proposed to his wife in 2016 in Spain and planning for the wedding began straight away. He said the date, May 19, held a special meaning to them both as it coincided with anniversaries, birthdays and deaths of loved ones.

When news broke of the Royal wedding date, Mr Clarke said it came as a complete shock to them both.

'We couldn't really believe it was the same day,' he said. 'We got their first before they did.'

What came as even more of a surprise for the couple was that they had planned to get married at the exact same moment as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - at midday.

Mr Clarke said he was pleased to be sharing the special day with royalty, adding: 'It's definitely one way we can remember our anniversary and not worry about forgetting to send a card to each other.'

Mr and Mrs Clarke got married at All Saints Church in Belton, with all of their family and close friends beside them.

'It was a phenomenal day, it was sunny and the sky was blue, we had a ball from start to finish.

'We were both quite nervous to begin with and I had a few tears when she walked down the aisle but it was a beautiful day.'

Millions of people around the world watched the Royal couple's wedding ceremony which was held in Windsor Castle, where Mr Clarke had previously met the Queen and Prince William. His father, John Clarke, received the Silver Acorn at the Queen's Scout Awards ceremony in 2008, which was held at St George's Chapel where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot.

'It makes sharing our wedding day even more poignant for us,' said Mr Clarke.
