A north Suffolk primary school is benefiting from reduced electricity bills following the installation of new solar panels.

Governors and staff from the Federation of Gislingham and Palgrave CEVC Primary Schools put together the proposal for the panels and got the project approved in record time for the roof of Gislingham school to take advantage of government subsidies.

The panel installation resulted in the federation recently winning the schools section in the Buildings Energy and Water category of Suffolk County Council's Creating the Greenest County awards.

Kit Wells, chairman of the governors, said: 'I am delighted at how the governors of Gislingham and Palgrave schools have supported such a worthwhile and environmentally sustainable project.'

'We have now delivered something that will be a long-term benefit to all the pupils and staff within our federation. I am pleased that our initiative has also been recognised by Suffolk County Council in their Greenest County awards.'
