A group of people who dumped a dirty nappy and beer cans in a park have been fined £120.

The group, who were using the park on Girling Road, Dereham, in June, left a “significant amount” of litter according to Breckland Council, which was found by a gardener who was cutting the grass.

The group’s fine will rise to £160 if not paid within 28 days after an investigation by the council’s enforcement team was able to identify the litterers who admitted to leaving the rubbish.

Councillor Gordon Bambridge, Breckland Council’s executive member for the environment said: “It is simply not acceptable to leave your litter behind you for other members of the community to find and clean up. I hope this latest investigation and fine highlights that we will take action to protect the environment for the good of the wider communities of Breckland.”

The council has urged members of the public to contact them if they see any littering at: www.breckland.gov.uk/reportit
