Having already hosted its first gin festival earlier in the year, a west Norfolk town may soon have a new bar devoted to the increasingly popular spirit.

King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council has received a licensing application for a new bar called Gin Saloon, which will open on Railway Road in King's Lynn.

Submitted by a company called The Gin Saloon Limited, the application looks to establish a new bar in the town, which would specialise in serving gin.

The application, which was submitted on Tuesday, June 5, sets out seven-day-a-week opening hours for the bar, which would open at 12pm until 1.20am, Mondays to Sundays.

A website and Facebook page for the bar, which has also applied to put on live music, was set up in April.

Its first post said: 'We felt it was time that King's Lynn had the chance to sample the finest gins, with the correct mixers and fruit to accompany the botanicals.

'Now we will. Coming summer 2018.'

The Facebook page also claims the bar will offer gin taster boards, allowing customers to sample either three or five different gins, along with 'the relevant mixers and garnish combinations'.

The most recent post on the page claims it will be 'King's Lynn's premier gin venue'.

If the licence is approved, it is likely to be welcomed by gin fans in the town, following the success of the town's first gin festival in March.

Organised by the King's Lynn and District Round Table 54, the inaugural event was held at St Nicholas Chapel in the town over two days - Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10.

The event was hailed a success, after both nights completely sold out.

Speaking at the time, the organisation's chairman Ryan Brown said:

'It was a fantastic weekend. We had a great turn out of people coming to sample the artisan gins and they bought some to take home, so we raised quite a bit of money.'

The application is currently up for consultation, meaning members of the public can submit views on it through the council's website.
