A smash hit musical featuring a pop favourite is set to take to the stage in Lowestoft next year.

EVERYBODY CUT LOOSE

When Footloose was released on screen in 1984, it became the highest-grossing February release in US film history. The soundtrack album ended the year-long reign of Michael Jackson’s Thriller at number one and went on top album charts all over the world – eventually selling more than 17 million copies.

Footloose was nominated for a Golden Globe, and both the title song and Let’s Hear It for the Boy received Academy Award nominations. Footloose: The Musical first opened on Broadway in 1998, where it ran for 709 performances. A London production followed in 2006, opening at the Novello Theatre following a UK Tour.

Some classic 80s anthems will echo out around the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft when Footloose: The Musical returns with a brand new production in 2016.

The rock musical, based on the popular 1984 film, will come to the Marina in February – with Gareth Gates starring as Willard.

Arriving on the stage with classic 1980s hits, including Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and the unforgettable title track, it will play eight shows in a six-day run.

And looking forward to performing on stage at the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft, Mr Gates said: “I have been so lucky to perform in some of the greatest musicals over the years, from Joseph to Les Misérables and Legally Blonde, and I am so excited that Footloose will be my next.

More recently he has enjoyed a successful career on stage. He is now touring the nation with a new production – Mad About The Musicals – before playing the Prince in the panto Cinderella over Christmas, and then touring once more early next year with Footloose.

Based on the movie starring Kevin Bacon - which took the world by storm with its youthful spirit, dazzling dance and electrifying music - Footloose: The Musical tells the story of city boy Ren, who has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned.
