On Friday the Norfolk Winter School Games was kicked off in style when youngsters from across Norfolk took part in sports including skiing.

On Friday the Norfolk Winter School Games was kicked off in style when youngsters from across Norfolk took part in sports including skiing.

The event, which continues today and is on until Friday, will see more than 2,500 young people, aged four to 18, compete in 16 sports.

The programme, delivered by Active Norfolk - the County Sports Partnership, which wants to increase the levels of participation in sport and physical activity, aims to offer competitive sporting opportunities to youngsters.

On Friday, 64 students took to the slopes at the Norfolk Snowsports Club, Trowse, to compete in skiing.

While the Special School Games was launched at the UEA Sportspark and was attended by 250 students who competed in rowing, curling, badminton and golf.

Ben Jones, director of Active Norfolk said: 'The inspiration that such a spectacular event can create for a young person cannot be underestimated; positive and high quality early experiences of sport and physical activity are a great platform for lifelong participation and an active lifestyle.'
