Jack Smith, 26, and Imogen Kirk, 23, will be cycling in aid of the Samaritans, where he volunteers at the Norwich branch.

He said: “The Samaritans is something that’s close to both our hearts.

“I know that when I’m doing the bike ride, the phrase ‘Samaritans, can I help you?’ will be in the centre in my mind. It’s the only bit of a call that is scripted. After that, it’s the callers’ call. That phrase can lead on to some of the deepest conversations I’ve ever had in my life.”

Mr Smith, who works for RM Smith (Builders) Ltd in Brancaster, took part in the same ride in 2015. He said: “I’m looking forward to it. There will be gentle slopes and steep hills, which is a bit like life, really.”
