A colourful array of music and street theatre is set to entertain people in Norwich on Thursday evenings this summer.

The Head Out, Not Home programme of free entertainment starts this Thursday, and will see performances take place across the city. The launch night will see five acts make the city centre their stage.

Covent Garden's Betty Brawn will present an exhilarating array of feats of strength on Timberhill, meanwhile on Gentleman's Walk Kandela mi Son will bring the sounds of Cuba to Norwich while Chili Con Salsa will get everyone moving to the beat with Salsa dancing lessons.

Sefo Kanuteh and Meriya will perform a mix of contemporary Mande music on Hay Hill, and local indie rock band Thieving Icons will be playing at St Gregory's Green. For something a little different and quirky look out for Patteson's Amazing Camera Obscura.

There will be lots more entertainment to come during the 10 week extravaganza organised by Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) and Norwich and Norfolk Community Arts (NORCA). Head Out, Not Home aims to encourage people to stay in Norwich on Thursday evenings to enjoy late night shopping and the city's bars, cafés and restaurants.

Stefan Gurney, Norwich BID's executive director, said: 'It's great that we can bring a flavour of London's Covent Garden and a vast array of local acts to the streets of Norwich, all of which add to the vibrancy of what our fantastic city already has to offer. Thursday nights during the summer in Norwich are not to be missed.'
