An arts charity has launched a new project, which welcomes adult family carers to a series of free creative workshops taking place in Lowestoft.

By exploring food, creativity and culture in regular workshops, Suffolk Artlink will give adult family carers an opportunity to gain respite from their caring role, develop new support systems, learn new skills and build their confidence with the project entitled Around the Table.

The first workshop will take place in Lowestoft on November 16, and will be followed next year by a series of 14 further workshops, due to be held monthly.

Workshops will be led by a rich variety of experienced chefs, food-led practitioners and artists.

Carrie Phoenix, Suffolk Artlink project officer, said: 'Arts, food and creativity are universal, and make great tools to help people explore and adapt to the transitions that occur in the lives of adult family carers.

'We are really looking forward to welcoming people to enjoy a bit of time away from their caring role each month and hope that it leaves them with a renewed sense of passion and achievement in their daily lives.'

All workshops are free of charge, no experience is necessary and reasonable travel costs can also be provided.

Participants are welcome to attend as many or as few of the workshops as they are able.

The long-term aim of Around the Table is to work together towards a carer-led initiative which continues beyond the project's lifetime.

The first workshop for Around the Table will be held on Thursday, November 16, from 10am to 12.30pm, at the Kirkley Centre in Lowestoft.

This workshop will feature chef Sam Hannison and artist Kasia Posen, who will be exploring the use of preservation in food, and the decorative and sensory qualities food can have – perfect preparation for the festive period.

To book your place onto the first workshop, or to find out more about next year's workshop schedule, please contact Carrie Phoenix via emailing carrie@suffolkartlink.org.uk or alternatively you can call 01986 873955.
