A 43-year-old man arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies in West Norfolk was released on police bail late last night.The man, from the Huntingdon area, was arrested at Welney on Saturday night after being rescued by police officers from a river when the car he was travelling in overturned.

The man, from the Huntingdon area, was arrested at Welney on Saturday night after being rescued by police officers from a river when the car he was travelling in overturned.

Detectives from Norfolk's Major Investigation Team (MIT) say they are still investigating a recent series of at least seven armed robberies at premises linked to businesses in villages in West Norfolk and the Fens.

The latest arrest brings to four the number of people currently on bail in connection with the armed robberies.

Two men and a woman from Littleport in Cambridgeshire were released on police bail last week after being questioned by Norfolk detectives about the raids.

A 24-year-old woman from the Huntingdon area arrested in connection with the incident at Welney on Saturday night was also released on police bail pending further enquiries.
