The A140 at Dunston has been reopened following a four-car crash during the rush-hour.
The collision happened at about 4.45pm, closing the road and causing queuing traffic in both direction between the A47 junction and the Stoke Lane junction.
The road was fully reopened by 5.40pm, though tailbacks persisted on surrounding roads as the traffic dispersed.
