A former teacher and grandfather who lived by the phrase 'all children matter' has died.

Kevin Tovey, from Thetford, died on March 30 at the age of 65 after a short illness, leaving two daughters and three granddaughters.

Mr Tovey's last job was at Thetford Academy, retiring last year.

He had joined the school after a long career which started with teacher training college in his home city of Worcester.

He qualified as a science and mathematics teacher in 1972.

His first teaching position was at a secondary school in North London, where he met his wife.

They married in 1977 and his first daughter, Claire, was born in 1979, followed by his second daughter, Emma, in 1982.

His varied career led him to Norfolk, where he was known for his passion for teaching and striving to make a difference in the lives of all the students he worked with.

He became an active member of the community in Thetford, engaging in Rotarian and Masonic activities. He planned to get more involved in these activities during his retirement.

He also enjoyed photography, history and travel.

In 1975, he developed a passion for Venice and continued to visit annually, subsequently being asked to speak publicly and share his historical knowledge and photography on the city.

A funeral service for Mr Tovey will be held at St Mary's Church, Thetford on Tuesday, April 21 at 12pm.

Enquiries regarding donations should be made to Mark Skinner Funeral Service on 01842 752197.
