Canaries legend Darren Eadie will next month launch his new celebrity auction website which aims to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.

The former Norwich City midfielder, who returned to Norfolk eight years ago after retiring from football, has talked a host of stars into donating items that will be sold online to the highest bidders.

Sellebrity, which will be up and running on April 29, will then pass funds on to good causes.

The Prince's Trust, for which Mr Eadie is an ambassador, will be the first to benefit with other supporters of the charity already signing up to donate auction lots.

The former England player, who now lives in Blofield, near Acle, said: 'Sharon Osbourne has donated a limited edition Fendi Spy handbag, which I'm told is worth about 2,000. Alan Sugar donated a Giorgio Armani tie which he wore on the first series of The Apprentice.'

Singer Eliza Doolittle has given the site the Nike trainers she wore on the front cover of her debut album, with Gary Lineker, Jools Holland and Bruce Forsyth, among others, also set to help out.

Mr Eadie intends to get celebrity ambassadors for other charities taking part to support their causes. He also hopes to line up national companies to donate items like flat screen televisions.

As a business, Sellebrity will take a small commission from the bids with the majority of the money helping to raise huge sums for the charities.

Mr Eadie said: 'This is an international website. We believe it will grow year by year and we are in it for the long haul. As we build relationships with lots of charities, corporate businesses and celebrities we believe we will be raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities.'

The footballer first had the idea for the site when he moved back to Norwich eight years ago after his playing career at Leicester City was ended by injury.

'We came back with so much stuff, like clothes and furniture, that we no longer wanted,' he said. 'When you're a footballer, you have a lot of expendable income and, like a lot of celebrities, you never seem to see people in the same outfit twice.

'But what do they do with all that stuff? Does it sit in their closets, or get sent to a charity shop? That's great, but I thought there had to be a way of making more out of it.'

The Canaries star decided to make the most of celebrity culture to benefit good causes and a year ago began work on the Sellebrity website.

When asked to become an ambassador for the Prince's Trust eight months ago, it all fell into place. He said: 'I didn't feel I was doing enough for them as an ambassador. This all tied in quite nicely.

'It's a great cause to help out our young people. As a 16-year-old, I was lucky enough to go straight into football – I had something to look forward to. A lot of young people don't have that.'
