A former Norwich City player has urged people to tell friends and family they love them, after his mum died in hospital.

Darren Eadie posted on Twitter on Thursday to say his mum, June, had died in intensive care aged 61 after a brain haemorrhage.

He said the last three weeks had been 'truly heartbreaking', and encouraged people to tell loved ones they care.

His post said: 'The last three weeks have been truly heartbreaking. Sitting with my 61-year-old mum in intensive care until she passed away following a brain haemorrhage.

'Please tell the people you truly love just that... You love them, more often. It doesn't take much but it means an awful lot.'

His words prompted an outpouring of support online, with Norwich City tweeting their condolences.

They said: 'The thoughts of everyone at Norwich City are with you at this sad time, Darren.

'Wishing you and your family all the best on behalf of the club.'

They were joined by the club's Community Sports Foundation, who also sent their condolences.

Many others sent messages of support, including one person who said: 'I am so very sorry for your loss. Will squeeze my mum extra tight xx'
