Floral tributes have been laid at the scene where a cyclist’s body was discovered in Norwich earlier today.
Three bunches of flowers could this afternoon be seen in the alleyway off Whistlefish Court, in the Dereham Road area, where police were called to shortly after midnight following reports that a body had been found.
Sgt Matt Steward, from Norfolk police’s roads policing unit, said it was believed the man, who had been on a bicycle, had been involved in an accident and that no other vehicle was involved.
He said the man’s death was not being treated as suspicious but that police were keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the cyclist prior to the incident.
A seal was put in place at the scene during the early hours of this morning while officers carried out enquiries but it had been removed by 8am this morning and many people living in the area had been unaware of what had happened overnight.
They spoke of their shock at waking up to the news.
One man living close by, who did not want to be named, said: “I saw police here until 1am I think, but I did not know what it was about.
“It’s a real tragedy.”
One neighbour said it was “shocking” to find out what had happened and said that they had seen police walking around the area during the day.
Another woman said: “It’s such a shame. It’s somebody’s son. It’s terrible.”
• Anyone with information is asked to call Norfolk police on 101.
