Anglian Water workmen dealt with a damaged water main which caused minor flooding and low water pressure in Dereham.

Water started building up in the Humbletoft Road area at about 8am today and some gardens and the playing field began to flood.

The mains supply was quickly turned off and the water levels subsided but a few homes were left with no water or low pressure.

There were reports of water pressure at homes in other parts of the town being affected including Quebec Road and Highfields.

Councillor Diana Irving said she had about four inches of water outside her back door but fortunately it did not get in to her home.

'Fortunately there was someone from Anglian Water in the area and it is being deal with as an emergency. The water had been pouring down the hill,' she said.

An AW spokesman said workmen were on site repairing the burst mains pipe.

'It looked more spectacular than it was and it should be repaired today,' she said.
