Five candidates will next week be interviewed for the job of Breckland Council's new £110,000-a-year chief executive.

A total of 35 people originally applied for the post and the authority has been reducing the number to a shortlist who will be given a final interview by Breckland's staff appointments panel on Friday.

That body will then make a recommendation to the full council, which will make a final decision on March 29.

Breckland has not given out any information about the five on the shortlist and Friday's meeting will be held behind closed doors.

Council leader William Nunn said: “We are delighted with the range of applicants we've attracted and short-listed candidates are from commercial, public and private sector backgrounds. We are happy with the candidates at this stage and look forward to moving the process on next week.”

Breckland has been without a permanent chief executive since Becky Hellard resigned last year.
