Five people were taken to hospital this morning following a two-vehicle crash on the A146 at Carlton Colville, near Lowestoft, shortly after 7am.

An ambulance service spokesman said that one patient had multiple fractures and another had abdominal pain.

Both were trapped and had to be released by fire crews using hydraulic cutting equipment.

Three other people suffered various injuries, none of which were thought to be life-threatening.

Police, three fire crews from Lowestoft, four ambulances, the air ambulance, a paramedic, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance service officer attended the scene.

All the casualties were taken to the James Paget University Hospital at Gorleston.
