A total of 50 pigs are feared dead in a barn blaze near Eye after 100 tonnes of straw caught alight at a farm.

Fire crews were called to Green Street in Hoxne at about 1.15pm today.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene but the severity of the fire meant a further three crews plus a command unit were called for.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to get close to the fire and jets and hose reels to extinguish it. It was under control by around 4.20pm.

Crews from Stradbroke, Diss, Harleston in Norfolk and Ixworth attended.
