A mural landscape commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War is currently being painted in Thetford.

Self-employed artist Mark Harper’s painting depicts a poppy field with the iconic Breckland pine line landscape.

Mr Harper, an artist with more than 20 years experience, is painting the mural on the wall at the end of the Shambles on the Market Place.

The trompe l’oeil art technique will help to create a focal point and complement the historic Guidhall.

The project is part of the number of events organised by Thetford Town Council to honour those who fought and died in the Great War.

Life-sized silhouette Tommies are to be placed around the town and thousands of knitted and crocheted poppies will be draped down the Guildhall clock tower

The public are invited to watch as Mr Harper completes his piece of art.
